Proper Wing Etiquette![]() Description: Proper Wing Eating Etiquette By Dan Blizniak When eating Buffalo chicken wings, with your buddies, an unspoken “Protocol Code” should be followed. This unwritten code or etiquette as you may, goes unnoticed to the rookie wing eater but to the expert, it is as important in golf etiquette as not driving your golfcart on the greens of a golf course. The following list of Buffalo wing eating etiquette is brought to you as a service from BuffaloWingReviews.com and is the sole viewpoint of its author. Please feel free to add any additional comments or points to ponder concerning this very delicate subject. 1. It is always important to eat the same amount of drums as flats. This rule is generally only followed when eating wings with a new person that you do not know. You should always try to maintain the same ratio to be fair to your fellow wing eaters. There are many variables to this equation. Things to take into account: Are the drums and flats equal in ratio? That is, did you receive the same amount of drums and flats in your order? Take into factor people’s preferences, some people prefer flats and some the drums. It is always desirable to match up with fellow wing eaters that prefer the type that you don’t, so that you can maximize your wing enjoyment. Of course, if you are not paying for the wings you simply eat what the buyer does not eat. 2. Try to not reach for a wing when your buddy is reaching for a wing. You could mistakenly be going for the same wing, which can result in a tug of war match (which can get messy!) It is common courtesy to let the person who moves first for the wing to have the right of way. In a perfect wing-eating world it should be: “He who eats the fastest, gets the wing of choice.” Obviously, we can’t always do this because of complainers and people that cannot eat as fast as the pros. 3. If there is one wing left and you grab it and gobble it down without saying anything, it is generally considered disrespectful. The proper way to eat the last wing is to offer it to your buddy. If they know the code they will understand that what you are really saying is: can I have the last wing? Then depending on how they feel about you, they will respond with either “no you have it”, or “ok, don’t mind if I do”. This is a very good way to sort your real friends from fake ones. 4. Sucking sauce off your fingers is questionable and should be addressed cautiously with every wing-eating encounter. Sometimes it is appropriate and sometimes you should use your napkin. Go with your gut on this one. 5. If your wing buddy is perspiring profusely, just let him be. You do not need to bring this to his attention because he already knows. When eating spicy wings sometimes it is necessary to perspire to keep from imploding. Eating hot Buffalo wings is risky business and sometimes sweating happens. You should not single out a fellow wing eater by poking fun at them for sweating. You should be envious of the “wing-sweat” and strive to eat hotter wings so that you too can experience true wing-nirvana. 6. Double-dipping is generally considered poor wing etiquette. This only applies to community dipping containers in which multiple people share one dipping sauce. If you have your own then dig in all you want. If you are sharing, one acceptable technique is the “wing-twirl.” This is accomplished by twirling the wing in the bleu cheese cup to evenly coat the wing with sauce. 7. Do not put your bones in a live buffalo wing area. A live buffalo wing area is any area where there are wings that can be consumes. It is bad etiquette to get your slobber near eatable wings. Try to get a separate vessel for the bones. Most bars will accommodate this request. If not, try stacking the bones in the corner of the wing area and pray the stack doesn’t tip over. These are just a few Wing Etiquette rules. If you think I have left out any important rules, please feel free to add a review and add your rule. Address:
